Victim Services

Victims of crime in Georgia have rights!  The Victim Witness Assistance Program offers crime victims and witness emotional support and services during the aftermath of a crime and guidance through the Criminal Justice System. The Victim Witness Assistance Program is located in the Office of the District Attorney on the third floor of the Cherokee County Justice Center in Canton, Georgia.  To speak with an advocate in the Office of the District Attorney, please contact 770-479-1488.

The Victim Witness Program provides the following services to victims and witnesses of crime:

INFORMATION about the status of your court case;

NOTIFICATION of any court proceedings;

EXPLANATION and information about the criminal justice system;

ORIENTATION to the courtroom setting;

ACCOMPANIMENT to/from and moral support in the courtroom;

ADVOCACY and support with any problems that you may have as a result of the crime itself or court appearances;

REFERRAL to social service agencies, counselors, and others who can assist you;

EMPLOYER INTERVENTION to explain time missed from work due to required court appearances;

ASSISTANCE in completing your Victim Impact Statement;

PAROLE NOTIFICATION so you can know when an inmate is expected to be released from prison if applicable.
