2017 Benefits at a Glance


Employee Eligibility:

All full-time Cherokee County employees are eligible for benefits on the first of the month following 30 days of employment.

Dependent Eligibility:

Medical - Dependents are covered to age 26 unless they are eligible for their own benefits.

Dental & Vision - Unmarried dependents are covered to age 19. Unmarried college students are covered to age 25 if enrolled as a full time
student (12 or more credit hours
per semester) in an accredited institution. Please provide Human Resources with proof of full time student
status in order for claims to be processed accurately.

Changes in Enrollment Status:

Open enrollment will occur once a year. Each year you may change your benefit elections during the open enrollment period. Once you have
made your selection, you may not change it until the next year's open enrollment unless you have a "life changing event." Life changing events include:

  • Marriage
  • Divorce
  • Birth or adoption of a child
  • Death
  • Spouse losing coverage at their place of employment
  • Child losing coverage due to a change in student status

In the event that you have a "life changing event", you must notify Human Resources within 30 days if you wish to change the
status of your insurance coverage.
