Job Description
This is skilled work responsible for the maintenance and repairs of the County’s vehicles and equipment. Employees also perform body work, preventative maintenance and servicing work. Work orders, and other paperwork is completed for all repair work conducted. Employees may be assigned to specialized or generalized repair areas. Duties and Responsibilities: • Adjusts, repairs and/or replaces brakes, tires, fuel, electrical and cooling systems and other defective parts as required. • Performs automotive and equipment repairs including: performing tune-ups; inspecting and replacing brakes; inspecting and replacing belts and hoses; installing rings and bearings; replacing tires; servicing air conditioners; replacing fuel and water pumps, etc. on all light duty County vehicles • Repairs small engine equipment such as lawn mowers, leaf machines and other equipment. • Performs preventative maintenance work on all vehicles and equipment • Assists in maintenance and repair of heavy equipment • Completes road testing to repaired vehicles to ensure safety and performance meet County standards. • Operates a variety of hand tools, welders, and torches in performing repair duties. • Prepared accurate Work Orders on county vehicles • Maintains shop area; cleans up debris and discards material. • May perform repair work on-site for Fleet Maintenance vehicles • May operate County vehicles in the performance of duties or to attend training programs. • Inspects vehicles, discusses extent of damage or malfunction with shop supervisor, identifies needed repair and plans work procedure. • Raises vehicle, with hydraulic jack or hoist, to gain access t mechanical units bolted to underside or vehicle. • Removes unit such as engine, transmission, or differential and inspects parts for wear • Overhauls, repairs or replaces carburetors, blowers, generators, distributors, starters and pumps • Relines and adjusts brakes, repairs or replaces shock absorbers • Disassembles unit and inspects parts for wear • Rewires ignition system, lights, and instrument panel • Relines and adjusts brakes, aligns front end, repairs or replaces shock absorbers • Replaces and adjusts headlights, and installs and repairs accessories such radios, heaters, mirrors, and windshield wipers • Performs emergency call-back duty as required. • Perform any other duties assigned
Qualifications
• High school diploma or general education degree (GED) • Three years experience in automotive mechanical repair work • Must maintain at least one auto and one truck ASE certification • Any equivalent combination of education and experience is acceptable

• Must be eighteen (18 years of age or older • Must have no felony convictions within the past ten (10) years • Must furnish own small hand tools Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: Possession of a valid State of Georgia driver’s license (Class C) and a satisfactory Motor Vehicle Record (MVR). Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: • Knowledge of procedures, tools and equipment used to maintain and/or repair vehicles and equipment. • Abililty to diagnose gasoline and diesel engine malfunctions and problems • Ability to repair all light and heavy equipment in the countys fleet • Ability to perform manual labor which includes lifting and carrying heavy objects. • Ability to safely and effectively operate tools and equipment commonly used in repair of vehicles and equipment • Ability to comprehend and follow verbal and written instructions Physical Demands: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Salary Range
$14.21-$16.50 per hour/Depending on Experience
