Cherokee Citizen's Roundtable

Mission Statement
Provide a forum for local leaders and citizens to have on-going dialogue linked to growth management issues. The mission of this forum is to assist Cherokee County with developing a shared vision for Cherokee County while updating and developing the County Long-Term Comprehensive Plan for the community of Cherokee.
Roundtable Members
  • Four (4) Homeowner Association President (Representing subdivisions - one from each Commission Post)
  • Superintendent of Schools, or designee
  • Local Commercial/Residential Developer
  • President, Cherokee Ministerial Association
  • Five (5) County Planning Commission Members, one each appointed by the Chairman and Commissioner
  • Civic Association Leader
  • High School Student
  • Five (5) Mayors or their designee, cities of Ball Ground, Canton, Holly Springs, Waleska and Woodstock
  • Six (6) Cherokee Citizens at-large, four appointed by the Board of Commissioners, and two appointed by the Chairman
  • General Manager, or designee, Water & Sewer Authority
  • Executive Director, Cherokee Recreation & Parks Authority

  • Ex-Officio Members:
  • Director of Planning, Cherokee County
  • One (1) staff member representing each city (appointed by each city)
Desired Outcomes
  • Strengthen partnerships between the Board of Commissioners and City leaders.
  • Develop a shared vision for the Community of Cherokee.
  • Create opportunities for cooperation with city, county, regional and community leaders.
  • Create growth management goals that include mechanisms for balanced residential-industrial and business growth, as well as mechanisms for rural economic development and the continued viability of agricultural economies while protecting the unique characteristics of rural areas (i.e., Veterans Cemetery, Garland Mountain Observatory, Botanical Gardens, etc.)
  • Ensure a desirable quality of life for residents of the community.
