PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES Provide accounting and purchasing services for Cherokee County, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, general ledger, financial reporting, and cash management. WHAT WE DO The Finance Department consists of Accounting, Budgeting, Purchasing, Payroll and Fixed Assets. All payments, including employees and outside venders, and receipts are recorded to our general ledger, to be summarized in our annual financial reports. All purchasing done by all County offices and departments are processed through the Purchasing Department, which verifies that adopted County policy is used when making purchases. The budget process balances forcasted revenues to the needs of the various County departments and outside agencies. In the last several years, the Finance Department has: selected and implemented a new accounting, purchasing and payroll software program. completely reorganized the County chart of accounts to be consistent with the Georgia Uniform Chart of Accounts, which was a legislative requirement in 1999. received the Award for Excellence in Financial Reporting from the Government Finance Officers' Association two years in a row (2000 and 2001). successfully implemented a de-centralized purchasing system and trained approximately 150 County employees on the use of the accounting software. brought the payroll function back in-house after having it out-sources for several years.
