  • Batteries: The Cherokee Recycling Center now accepts car batteries. Place these items in the designated location. Please DO NOT deposit in other containers.
  • Motor Oil: The Cherokee Recycling Center accepts used motor oil for recycling. Please make sure that the oil is not mixed with any other substances such as ammonia.
  • Aluminum Cans: Cans should be separated from other metals. This includes beer and soda cans. Aluminum pie plates and foil need to be placed with ferrous metals.
  • Metals: Ferrous metals-any metal that sticks to a magnet. This includes food containers, metal lids, hangers, appliances, steel or iron. Non ferrous metals will not stick to a magnet. These metals include copper, electrical wire, brass, aluminum siding, doors or lead weights.
  • Paper: We accept almost any paper. Separate paper into the following groups: Cardboard (brown paper bags and paper board—should be broken down and flattened). Newspaper, mixed office paper and junk mail, magazines and phone books.
  • Plastic: Look for the triangle of arrows on the bottom of plastic containers. Plastics are sorted by the number in the middle of the triangle. We accept #1 (PET) soda bottles, and #2 (HDPE) milk jugs, bleach containers, clean plastic buckets #2. We DO NOT accept other plastics.
  • Glass: Acceptable items– glass food and beverage containers can be easily recycled by glass container plants. Metal caps and lids should be removed. We will not accept any other type of glass for recycling.
  • Tires: Car and Light Truck Tires - $3.00 off rim and $5.00 on rim. Oversized tires - $10.00 - $25.00.
  • Appliances: Small Appliances (dishwashers, dryers, etc...) $3.00. Larger appliances $10.00. Call before bringing appliance for an accurate quote.
  • Electronics: prices vary from $3.00 and up.
