Biography

Jerry W. Cooper was appointed as County Manager for Cherokee County on April 23, 2001. Cherokee County is the seventh largest county in Georgia and one of the fastest growing counties in the Atlanta Metropolitan area, with a population of 215,000 and an annual budget of $180 million. As County Manager, Cooper serves as the Chief Executive Officer appointed by the Chairman and Board of Commission, and is the principal advisor to the governing body on all operational matters pertaining to the administration of county government. Mr. Cooper has served nearly 23 years in local government as City Manager of Woodstock, Georgia; Assistant City Manager of Newnan, Georgia; and Staff Administrator of the City of Fayetteville, Arkansas.

A native of Arkansas, Cooper holds a Master of Public Administration degree and a Bachelor of Science in Public Administration degree - both from the University of Arkansas. He is an ICMA Credentialed Manager. Mr. Cooper is active in numerous organizations, including the Malon D. Mimms Cherokee Boys & Girls Club, Cherokee County Chamber of Commerce, Reinhardt University Ambassador, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, and the Rotary Club of Canton.
