Emissions Information

For the 2012 registration period, gasoline-powered cars and light-duty trucks, model year vehicles 1988-2009 must receive an annual emissions test.

For the 2013 registration periods, gasoline powered cars and light-duty trucks, model year 1989 - 2010 must receive an annual emissions test.

Georgia Clean Air Force recommends the vehicle be tested four to six weeks prior to the registration renewal date; however the vehicle may be tested earlier if needed. A Georgia Vehicle Emission Inspection Report (VIR) is valid for 12 months or one registration renewal, by the same owner. GCAF recommends contacting your tag office to determine if they will allow a registration renewal prior to the normal renewal period (more than 60 days prior to the motorist's registration renewal date).  It is imperative to test your vehicle prior to your renewal date since there are no Temporary Operating permits for a failed emissions test.   Your tag can not be renewed nor an extension given if the vehicle fails emissions, thus getting it tested early allows time for repairs on the vehicle without your registration expiring.
