WHAT IF MY NAME CHANGES DURING MY COMMISSION TERM?
 
If your name legally changes during your commission term, you must appear in person at the Cherokee County Clerk’s office. You must present a letter which includes your old name, the new name and dates of your commission along with proof of legal name change. The proof may be provided by a copy of an order reflecting a legal name change or if the name change is a result of marriage, you may provide a copy of your marriage certificate. A copy of the letter should be sent to:

The Clerk of Superior Court will prepare an amended certificate for you reflecting your new name. The new certificate may be taken to any office supply to obtain a new seal and/or stamp. Once these steps have been completed, you may begin signing with your new name.
