NOTICE OF DATE FOR ADOPTION OF MILLAGE RATES

The Cherokee County Board of Commissioners do hereby announce that the General Fund, Fire District and Park Bond millage rates will be set at a meeting to be held at the Cherokee County Administration Building and Conference Center, 1130 Bluffs Parkway, Canton, in the BOC Meeting Room (Cherokee Hall), on July 29, 2010at 6:00 PM.

PUBLIC NOTICE

Due to the economy, Cherokee County has experienced an unprecedented decline in property values. In accordance with Georgia Statues to be carried out by the Cherokee County Tax Assessor’s Office, the 2010 Property Tax Digest for the General Fund has been adjusted to reflect an overall decrease in property value of approximately -8.35%, while the Fire District has been adjusted to reflect an overall decrease in value of approximately -8.61%.  The Board of Commissioners may choose to apply a full rollback for both the General Fund and Fire District millage rates – resulting in an increase in the rates from 4.381 to 4.729 in the General Fund, and from 2.742 to 2.956 in the Fire District Fund. The Park Bond rate is proposed to increase from 0.580 to 0.628

The Board of Commissioners intends to cut costs to cover a portion of the anticipated revenue shortfall as a result of deflation of property values. The Board of Commissioners will hold two (2) public hearings to allow the public an opportunity to express their opinions regarding the property tax rates.

All concerned citizens are invited to the public hearings to discuss the millage rates to be held at the following locations at the indicated times: July 20, 2010 at 6:00 PM, and July 29 at 6:00 PM at the Cherokee County Administration Building and Conference Center, 1130 Bluffs Parkway, Canton.
