Event Description
Notice is hereby given that the Cherokee County Board of Commissioners shall a conduct a session to provide an overview of Governmental Accounting. The session will cover:
·         Basic terminology
·         Differences between corporate accounting and governmental accounting
·         Description of funds (operations/purpose, restrictions for revenue)
·         Fiscal-year end closing process
·         Role of the external auditor
·         Highlights of the annual CAFR (Comprehensive Annual Financial Report)
·         How the CAFR relates to the county’s monthly financial reports
Miller Edwards, partner with Mauldin & Jenkins, LLC will be leading the session along with Janelle Funk, Cherokee County CFO, and James Bence, Client Executive with Mauldin & Jenkins, LLC. The three presenters encourage an interactive session, allowing attendees to ask questions throughout the session so that all attendees will come away with a basic understanding of governmental accounting and the processes followed by the Cherokee County Finance Department.
The session will be held on Monday, April 30, 2012 from 4:00 - 6:00 p.m. in the Cherokee County Administration Building and Conference Center, in Cherokee Hall, and located at 1130 Bluffs Parkway, Canton, Georgia 30114.
