Cherokee County Government Transparency Sunshine Review of Cherokee County

"A popular Government, without popular information, or the means of acquiring it, is but a Prologue to a Farce or a Tragedy; or, perhaps both. Knowledge will forever govern ignorance: And a people who mean to be their own Governors, must arm themselves with the power which knowledge gives." -- James Madison, letter to W.T. Barry, August 4, 1822

Cherokee County is moving forward on providing residents with more transparency. The term "transparency" describes efforts to make comprehensive information available to everyone, enabling a clear view of the government's operations and how tax dollars are spent.

While the county has provided financial and other information online for years, consolidating it on this Web page is the first step toward greater transparency. You will find financial reports, budgets, annual audits, procurement contracts and staff compensation plans. More work needs to be done and this page will be updated to provide more data.
