CANTON, GA (Dec. 16, 2020) – The Cherokee Area Transportation System (CATS) is set to host a public input meeting and an online comment period to generate feedback on proposed changes to several fixed-route stops.
The proposed changes include removing stops at Hickory Flat Highway at Marietta Road, East Marietta Street at Main Street, Jefferson Circle Community, Hasty Elementary School, Waffle House at Canton Marketplace, and both Colonial Village and Ridge Pine Office Park on Marietta Highway. The proposed removals are due to either low ridership or are within walking distance of another stop.
To address safety issues, there are several proposed changes to current pick-up spots including John T. Pettit Street at Marietta Highway, Northwood Apartments, Longhorn Steakhouse on Riverstone Parkway, Target at Canton Marketplace, Cherokee Chamber of Commerce and Spring Street at Transit Avenue.
“We feel that these proposed minor adjustments in pick-up spots will be safer for the riders and allow for more efficiency,” said CATS Director Greg Powell.
There are also several new proposed pick-up locations including Shoal Creek Road at Mashburn Place and Etowah Industrial Court at the Piolax Corporation.
The public input meeting will start at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 20, 2021, at the Cherokee County Senior Center located at 1001 Univeter Road in Canton. While parameters may change before the Jan. 20 meeting, CATS is prepared to host the meeting with social distancing in mind.
The online public comment period will begin Dec. 17, and run through Jan. 21, 2021. Residents can view the proposed changes and submit feedback at the CATS website at www.cherokeega.com/Transportation or by calling 770-345-6238.
