GRAND JURY
The Grand Jury serves an important role in the administration of justice in Cherokee County. Serving on the Grand Jury is one way in which citizens can directly participate in government. The Grand Jury has the responsibility of safeguarding individuals from ungrounded prosecution while simultaneously protecting the public from crime and criminals.
The Grand Jury Handbook, which was prepared by the staff of the Prosecuting Attorneys’ Council of Georgia, provides information to help citizens fulfill their duties as Grand Jurors. The handbook summarizes both Grand Jury history and its law and procedures. In addition, the handbook provides an overview of the duties, functions, and limitations of the Grand Jury. Individuals serving on the Grand Jury will be provided further explanation of their responsibilities.
If you are selected to serve on the Grand Jury, we hope you find the opportunity to participate in the enforcement of the law a rich and rewarding experience.
Grand Jury Presentments
At the end of each term, the Grand Jury makes a report to the Superior Court. These reports, which are called presentments, contain information such as the work of the Grand Jury, their findings resulting from the performance of their civil duties, recommendations in areas within their jurisdiction, and suggestions to the succeeding Grand Jury.
